About me

I am a Principal Investigator in the Cognitive Systems (CoSy) group within the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at the University of Bremen, Germany. I am also a member of the Spatial Cognition Research Center (SFB/TR 8) based at the University of Bremen, and University of Freiburg.

From 2002 - 2007, I was at the Department of Computer Science at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. Up until 2001, I was in Mumbai (Bombay) India, where I studied Commerce and Economics (BCOM) at Narsee Monjee College (NMC), University of Mumbai, India.

Interests

Goal: to build problem-specific computational models of high-level cognitive behaviour and performance exhibited by humans in creative, expertise-driven, and everyday commonsense reasoning tasks.

Such models provide a developmental foundation for human-centred cognitive technologies for people assistance, assurance, and empowerment. In particular, I am focussing on high-level visuo-spatial cognition problems in:

  • human activity interpretation (from sensor data)
  • cognitive control for human-robot collaboration
  • function-driven & creative design in domains such as architecture & urban planing, digital media creation
  • qualitative analyses in spatio-temporal data-intensive geographic information systems, and dynamic GIS

Research and adopted methods stand at the interface of computer science, cognitive science, and human-computer interaction; choice of problems tends to be driven social science considerations, and by the need bridge insights from different methods and disciplines.
